Artist Comments:
Orchid is an Impressionistic fractal rendering. The subtle effects of light and color, of gradual color gradient variations to hazy suggestions of form, create a composition that has weight within its weightless elements. The fractal distributions are used as visual cues to portray the image of a vibrant orchid blooming into a fiery atmosphere.

Notice that the shadows in the orchid emanate from the dark portion of the sky, upper right in the image, (the "shadows" are on wrong side of the "trees"). This subtle reversal of normal visual experience does not seem to disturb the interpretation of the subject.

The foreground consists of random, vague fractal elements giving a painterly interpretation to the base of the composition. In much of my work I try to use human perceptual tendencies to help interpret the fantastic landscapes found in the abstract fractal universe.

The subtleties before our eyes can provide a universe full of form.
